Benedict's Law is a new, mandatory requirement for allergy safety in schools across England, set to come into full effect by September 2026.
What does this mean?
The following 5 measures will be mandatory for all schools:
Whole School Allergy Policies - a clear, written policy covering prevention, response, and communication.
Mandatory Staff Training - annual training for all staff on recognising anaphylaxis, using AAIs, and following school policy.
Emergency AAIs on Site - spare adrenaline auto-injectors available for emergency use if needed.
Individual Allergy Plans - Up to date, personalised plans for each pupil with allergies.
Record Keeping & Reporting - Central allergy register with all incidents and near-misses recorded and reviewed.
How can Dukefield Foodservice help?
We offer a Level 2 Allergen Awareness Course which allows learners to further appreciate the seriousness of allergies, and it teaches them how to treat food in a hypo-allergenic context.
It covers all upcoming legal requirements, ensuring staff receive the correct training.
